This past year, South County Cal-SOAP, in collaboration with Gavilan College, TRIO, Extended Opportunity Program & Services ( EOPS), the University of California- Santa Cruz, the After School Educational & Safety Program, 21st Century Program, and Migrant Education, was able to offer four summer program opportunities to students from the South County region. These programs varied from local summer school programs, to a nine day residential summer academy at UC Santa Cruz. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of these programs was that each one was offered by South County Cal-SOAP at no cost to student or their families.
TRIO Summer Bridge Program 2010! : Cal-SOAP and TRIO will again offered a 6 week summer program for 30 new South County students entering Gavilan in the fall 2010. Students will enrolled in Guidance 200 and Communication 10, small group communications, which meet the requirements of most majors and enhance students' academic skills and success. The 2011 Gavilan Summer Bridge Program will begin on Monday, June 13th! Space is limited! See your Cal-SOAP representative as early as Januray 2011 to register!
Power School : Several Cal-SOAP tutors worked together with MACSA & the YMCA to provide a 8 week, 5-hour, 5-day per week, academic, recreational, and extracurricular summer program in lieu of summer school in 2010. Elementary and middle schools students who are in need of academic support receive priority registration for this program. MACSA, YMCA, Cal-SOAP, and GUSD are again gearing up for a 2011 Power School program thanks to the support of the Hewlett Packard Foundation.
South County Cal-SOAP UCSC Summer Academy Program College : Making It Happen! 2010. Cal-SOAP served 40 incoming 9th graders by allowing them to experience a small slice of college life at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The Cal-SOAP Summer Academy is a 9-day residential program designed to increase a students skills in the areas of critical thinking, writing, and math. Cal-SOAP will also provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to work side-by-side with outstanding teachers, researchers, and university students, covering topics that will help them explore their own career and post-secondary interests.
