Academic Mentoring

Cal-SOAP provides academic mentoring for a majority of our high schools and middle schools. Upon request this service can be used during lunch time and after school. All students are welcomed to drop in and receive help from our trained and knowledgeable college success coaches.

The academic mentoring could include help with homework, course selection, grade checks, transcript review, or just a conversation regarding plans after graduation.

College and Career

Qualified first-generation, low-income students receive monthly one on one assistance. This includes college and career awareness, grade check-ins, financial aid assistance, and discussions regarding A-G requirements.

Our College Success Coaches also offer guidance on researching and selecting colleges, including; assisting with application processes, transitioning to college life with the aim of helping to make the process and experience as smooth as possible.

Financial Aid Services

Financial Aid Parent Info Nights

Every fall semester Cal-SOAP presents and informs parents and student on the financial aid application process for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act (CADAA).

Cash For College Workshsops

Between October 1st and March 2nd high school seniors and families are offered FREE Cash for College workshops in their respective schools. These workshops aim to help families to complete their FAFSA or CADAA application in order to access financial aid towards higher education, career certification, or technical training.

Scholarships

Each year our Cal-SOAP graduating seniors who are planning to attend a 2-yr or 4-yr college may apply for the South County Cal-SOAP Scholarship. Applications are available each year in December and due in March. In addition, we help students to secure additional financial support by assisting them in finding and applying for other academic and need-based scholarships.

College Fairs

Each academic year students have the opportunity to attend a Cal-SOAP sponsored College Fair. College Fairs are free to students and their parents and provide the opportunity to interact directly with representatives from over 50 College and Universities.

Rising Seniors

A 3 day workshop in July focusing on helping incoming seniors move forward with their college applications and personal statements. Cal-SOAP College Success Coaches work with students each summer to help students prepare and succeed in their Senior Year.

Summer Bridge

Our College and Career exploration program combined with math skill building prepares students for a successful transition towards middle school and/or high school. This program offers College Tours & Workshops and provides 5.0 Elective Credits to 9th graders who complete the program.

Summer Melt

Supporting recent high school graduates over the summer with a phone call, or meeting with completing necessary documents for enrolling into college. Students are supported with financial aid/grants, connecting with a counselor, parking permits, finding your classes, and more.
